    What are we looking for?

    The Coatings Application Manager will oversee the coatings application and technical service team located at the GTC, and is the technical focal point for Coatings customers in North Americas. The main responsibilities will include raising awareness of OMNOVA product range and technical capabilities in the market place, providing support to sales during visits at customers and offering appropriate technical solutions.  The incumbent will also be responsible for developing new coatings formulations with the existing as well as newly developed coating resins, and for providing customer technical service support to increase sales of coating resins. Responsibilities also include support of the development of new resins by characterization and evaluation of candidate resins for existing as well as new applications and developing the support documents.

    Your tasks and responsibilities...

    • Manage the coatings application team for Americas
    • Assign and prioritize technical work requests to support New Product Development Pipeline, Innovation Platform Pipeline, Customer Service and Production Service.
    • Identify and propose new innovation project opportunities
    • Contribute to development of value propositions and selling cases for new and existing products based on Voice of Customer
    • Actively participates with project leaders and IPL to review progress toward deliverables in Stage Gate projects
    • Supports new product development and commercialization.
    • Develop clear definition of new project deliverables in coordination with Sales & Marketing for timely delivery of the technical solution to ensure the product is qualified to the customer.
    • Deliver to customer acceptance and qualification levels technical solutions/products to meet AOP sales and gross profit targets
    • Monitor metrics for timely execution of technical service projects
    • Lead trial planning, management and follow-up with account management team.
    • Develop action plans whether trials are a success or failure - to ensure success.
    • Aligned with sales team on maintaining current business and closing new opportunities.
    • Supports customers/distributors with product recommendations, customer seminars and training.
    • Develop and build effective relationships at customers especially with technical counterparts.
    • In the event of a new high priority project or reprioritization, determine which projects are discontinued based on resource and business impact and communicates it to the business team and Coatings Technical Manager.
    • Attends and participates in key coatings trade associations in the Americas
    • Identify opportunities to acquire or develop new techniques in-house or identify outside resources
    • Organizes and implements an annual plan to update testing methods and test validation studies for new and old methods
    • Develop application and end use expertise.
    • Follow all OMNOVA safe work practices while working efficiently.

    Who you are...

    • Bachelor's of Chemistry, Polymer & Coatings or Polymer Science degree
    • 7-10 Years Experience in coatings formulation and/or Application/Tech Service in raw materials for coatings
    • Excellent leadership and team management skills
    • Ability to effectively train and provide guidance to others
    • Enthusiastic, highly motivated, and results oriented
    • Ability to define and solve problems
    • Ability to work with commercial partners to develop and execute business growth strategy
    • Must be a team player that can collaborate effectively within a global organization.
    • Demonstrated ability to successfully drive/lead multiple projects with internal and external customers
    • Excellent written and oral communications skills
    • Ability to interface and build strong relationships with customers.
    • Thorough understanding/knowledge of competitive technologies
    • Strong business acumen.
    • Desire and capability to work hands on in a lab setting
    • BS in Chemistry, Polymer & Coatings or Polymer Science degree
    • 8+ years of experience in paint formulation development, preferably for water and solvent borne technologies
    • 8+ years of experience in paint and coatings evaluations
    • 1-3 years of experience providing customers technical service
    • Must be able to travel to customers domestically and internationally (Approximately 30-40%)
