    What are we looking for?

    Reporting to the Innovations Portfolio Leader for Nonwovens and Tape& Adhesives portion of CAST segment, the applications scientist/engineer will be responsible for leading at least one new innovation project in the Nonwovens market segment and act as a team member for other product development opportunities. The applications scientist will engage with key stakeholders and lighthouse customers to successfully develop and deliver new products to the market for OMNOVA. This role will also help support technical service projects with applications expertise and have some customer face-time.  

    Your tasks and responsibilities...

    • Deliver timely technical solutions/products to meet or exceed customer expectations supporting the Nonwovens product portfolio
    • Plan and carry out projects with direction from management; Communicate project plans and document project results to internal stakeholders.
    • Communicate and document project plans to internal teams. 
    • Actively engage the customer, seeking to understand their internal value needs, including operations, applications, end use, and competition to define needs, wants and the unmet needs that new products are expected to fulfill.
    • Participate in trade associations, trade shows, and present papers for new product introductions.
    • Troubleshoot customer issues providing technical applications-based expertise to assist with determination of root cause and problem resolution 
    • Analyze data and provide insights and recommendations based on the data


    Who you are...

    • Bachelors in either Chemistry, Polymer Science or Engineering, or related field
    • 5-7 experience in technical R&D experience and with customer interface; Demonstrated ability for project leadership.
    • Experience in Nonwovens/Textile manufacturing or R&D including substrate formation and functionalization (fiber, polymers, surface treatments, and bonding methods)
    • Excellent problem solving skills
    • Ability to work independently without direct supervision as part of a matrixed organization
    • Must be able to demonstrate good team leadership and project management skills
    • Effective communicator and active listener with solid interpersonal skills to foster strong customer relationships
    • Ability to find unique and innovative solutions to address customer needs
    • Agile multi-tasker who can prioritize work daily to meet project timelines and customer demands


    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Surface Treatment background (finishing treatments for “technical” fiber finishes, durable laundering treatments, fiber modifications and spin finishes)
    • Web formation background including meltblown, spunbond, air-through, and resin bonding in durable and disposable applications
    • Production applications methods for nonwoven treatments including substrate coating and drying
    • Familiarity with INDA and EDANA test methods and requirements
    • Strong Nonwovens network; could include Fiber manufacturers or Textile experience
    • Project Management Experience; Familiarity with StageGate process
    • Proficient in Microsoft SharePoint, Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
    • LSS Green Belt Certification with Design Of Experiments training or Statistical Analysis
