What are we looking for?

Located in Shanghai, China and reporting to the Global Marketing Director, Coatings within the Specialty Solutions Business Segment, the Marketing Manager, Coatings – APAC is key to the development and implementation of regional marketing strategies and initiatives for OMNOVA’s Coatings Resins / Floor Care market segments.

S/He will identify and connect latest market trends & dynamics and customer needs in the Coatings/FC marketplace to OMNOVA’s product portfolio and technical capabilities to deliver successful products, services and applications to our customers.

Must be an adaptive leader and team player with ability to interface closely with the external market, customers, consultants, industry associations, and internal functions, such as the marketing team, product management, sales, manufacturing, new business development, customer service, sourcing, finance, technology and R&D. The successful candidate will be skilled at successfully working within a matrix environment.

The candidate will also be responsible for identifying new application markets within the Coatings/FC market segment to expand our portfolio.

The candidate will be closely connected and understand the end-use customer company brands in these segments to further develop them using OMNOVA’s portfolio of products, services and application technologies delivering the ultimate customer needs and benefits in the marketplace.

Success is measured by demonstrating volume and margin growth in segments of responsibility.

Your tasks and responsibilities...

Market Segment(s) Strategy

  • Responsible for the development of a regional business strategy for Coatings Resins/Floorcare including a fully integrated marketing plan with clear direction, management, and positioning of key products and brands. The strategy should be aligned with both the overall OMNOVA’s growth strategy and the Coatings/FC market segment’s strategy globally.
  • Identify and execute upon strategic growth opportunities to achieve business objectives, including new/adjacent markets and products aligned with our value proposition and branding.
  • Develop appropriate Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) to evaluate and drive enhanced performance.

Market Management – Market-driven Innovation

  • Defines appropriate customer and market segmentation, selects target markets, and aligns strategies to leverage and maximize value across defined segments.
  • Responsible for understanding how their market segments will develop and how best to position OMNOVA for long-term profitable growth. Includes recommendation on where to invest in people and how to invest research funds.
  • Responsible for expanding the Coatings portfolio into adjacent market spaces.
  • Responsible for competitive intelligence and positioning. Track and monitor the market with respect to competition, market dynamics and technology developments (benchmarking) and define compelling, winning strategies and action plans. Communicate to the broader organization coatings industry trends, market indices, competitive/customer intelligence on a routine basis.
  • Identify, manage and respond to market's unmet needs (products, concepts, solutions) in coordination with Technology/R&D.
  • Project Manager responsible for on-time, on-budget delivery of all market-driven projects for the assigned segments.
  • Develop and execute new product launches based on business plans, accountable for positioning and value pricing strategy for products of responsibility and for the specific industries.

Marketing Leadership

  • Active participation in the global Coatings core team, as well as in the CAST business segment and Marketing Council meetings.
  • As a member of the Marketing Council, identify, share and leverage best practices.
  • Key contributor to regional MarCom programs, including marketing collateral, and participation in trade shows and other industry events.

Who you are...

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Management or related field, with 3+ years of experience in marketing/business development within the coatings industry in the APAC region.
  • Clear mindset towards customer focus and market orientation, coupled with a strong growth orientation.
  • Must demonstrate strong data analysis and assimilation skills, and have experience using data to form conclusions/recommendations for action
  • Experience developing and successfully implementing marketing strategies and initiatives.
  • Demonstrated project and team leadership experience, especially with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with project management, especially innovation projects.
  • Strong interpersonal, communications and influencing skills
  • Fluent in Mandarin and English

Preferred Skills:

  • MBA or M.S. Marketing; 3+ years of demonstrated B2B marketing experience in the Specialty Chemicals Industry
  • Strong Financial and Business Acumen skills
  • Forward thinking with a process orientation

  • Strong product knowledge and end uses for product or industry focused assignments
  • Technical knowledge within the industry
